Burke welcomes €40 million regional jobs fund for local businesses
Fine Gael General Election candidate for Longford/Westmeath, Cllr Peter Burke, has today welcomed the announcement of a €40 million regional jobs fund.
“This new €40 million fund announced by Minister Bruton will incentivise business collaboration at a local level, here in Longford/Westmeath,” Cllr Burke stated.
Eligible projects must involve cooperation with different players such as the Local Authority, educational institutions or the Chamber of Commerce.
“As part of the Regional Action Plan for Jobs, which aims to create an additional 220,000 jobs, Enterprise Champions have been named in each region to drive the plans forward and to support collaboration in their regions. These are leaders in their community who bring invaluable knowledge and experience to the table,” Burke explained.
“The fund will be competitive, which I hope will motivate local organisations to devise well thought-out plans to ensure they are awarded a decent allocation.
“This is a long term plan to keep the recovery going. We are seeing economic progress, with over 135,000 new jobs created since 2012, but we cannot take for granted that stability and recovery will continue.
“Our plan will deliver more new jobs, spread right across the country; jobs that pay more than welfare and where hard work is rewarded.
“More people in work creates the resources to cut taxes for working people and invest in better services, improving living standards for all.”
