Peter Burke TD has been appointed Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, with responsibility for Planning and Local Government.  The Longford Westmeath TD was appointed by An Tánaiste Leo Varadkar on July 1 2020.

“I was delighted to be appointed Minister of State for Planning and Local Government at the Department of Housing yesterday by An Tánaiste Leo Varadkar. I owe a debt of gratitude to my wife, my family and to all of those who have supported me over the last number of years.

“I do not take this role for granted and I am committed to work to the very best of my ability on behalf of the people of Longford Westmeath and the country.  It is a huge honour to serve as a Minister, and I am confident that my appointment can yield positive results for both the country and my home county of Westmeath. . I understand I am the first Minister from the town of Mullingar ever to appointed and I am conscious of the responsibility that comes with this role.

“This is a very wide-ranging portfolio within one of the Government’s largest Departments, with an annual budget of €2.4 billion last year.  Work starts today.”
